Located on the shores of Perhentian Besar, Barat Perhentian offers a relaxed island stay shaped by the sea, the weather, and the island’s natural pace. What began as a simple beachfront resort has grown carefully over the years, guided by the belief that island hospitality should feel easy and unforced. Days here move slowly, giving guests the space to unwind, explore, or simply enjoy the surroundings without pressure.

Established in 2015, Barat Perhentian was created with a clear idea: Pulau Perhentian Besar did not need a resort trying to be everything at once, but one that respected its character and rhythm. In 2024, the resort was refurbished to refresh spaces and improve comfort while preserving the barefoot simplicity that defines island life here. The approach remains the same thoughtful hosting, without over design, allowing the island to do what it does best.

Perhentian Besar sits in the South China Sea, shaped by forested hills, open water, and the steady rhythm of island life. The southwest coast remains one of the quieter stretches of the island, accessible only by boat and removed from the pace of the mainland.

Barat Perhentian rests along this beachfront. Founded in 2015 and thoughtfully refurbished in 2024, the resort offers modern chalets designed for comfort without complication. It is a place where families gather, couples unwind, and solo travelers find their own rhythm.

Days here unfold naturally. Some mornings draw guests out to sea. Others invite shade, stillness, and unhurried time by the shore. Most fall somewhere in between. This is island time ,calm and uncomplicated, shaped entirely by you.

Living with the Island

We are part of Perhentian Besar’s small southwest coast community. Boat operators connect guests from Kuala Besut, while local guides lead hiking trips across the island. Life and work here follow the island’s natural rhythm.

The monsoon season brings a yearly pause, and calm seas set the pace for daily operations.

We contribute to the Marine Park Conservation Fee and follow established diving and snorkeling guidelines to help protect the surrounding reefs.

Island operations are never perfect and require practical compromises, but we remain mindful of our impact.

Location & Getting Here

Barat Perhentian is located on the southwest coast of Pulau Perhentian Besar, off Malaysia’s east coast. The island is accessible by boat from Kuala Besut Jetty in Terengganu, with regular transfers operating during the open season. Travel time by boat typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on sea conditions.
